“Life in Hong Kong became very difficult and uncertain. We decided there was no future for us there and started looking elsewhere. Our check-list included such things as personal safety, quality of life, ease of access, the ability to settle permanently, a reliable civic infrastructure and an open and welcoming local population. Not many places can tick all those boxes, so Guernsey scored very high marks on our list of possible destinations”

“We moved across to Guernsey in June 2022 and immediately felt welcomed by everyone we met.  We soon discovered the breath-taking cliff walks in the south as well as the wide sandy beaches to the north and west of the island which we enjoy in all weathers.  St Peter Port has not disappointed us with some wonderful restaurants but there are equally some lovely restaurants to discover all over the island.  Guernsey's close proximity to the UK is so beneficial with daily flights back to London which has meant we have been able to see family and friends on a regular basis.”

“There were a few reasons why we chose Guernsey over other jurisdictions; the lifestyle and cultural values we read about prior to moving here were a definite draw; the more temperate climate was also an advantage; the tax situation here meant our financial plans for retirement became more attractive and that was a very significant advantage; functioning Public Services was also a bonus – Guernsey isn’t perfect, but generally things work pretty well, and that makes life easier and less stressful.”

“From our previous visit we were aware of some of Guernsey's quirks; the extremely narrow roads, the unreliability of inter-island transport at certain times of the year, the higher cost of living etc. What we weren't expecting were the many hidden delights one finds on such a small island. Substantial retail shops tucked away in obscure country lanes, interesting and unusual local businesses, restaurants in unexpected and out-of-the-way places. We keep discovering such things.”
