After its successful inaugural event in 2016, FinVention 2017 will be held for on Wednesday 15 November 2017 at St James, St Peter Port in the same week that Global Entrepreneurship Week is celebrated in 125 countries across six continents worldwide.

As the world marks Global Entrepreneurship Week, FinVention will welcome Alastair Lukies CBE as its keynote speaker.

A UK businessman and entrepreneur best known as a pioneer and champion for the UK’s global FinTech industry, Alastair founded Monitise in 2003. Three years later, Monitise was recognised as a ‘Technology Pioneer’ by the World Economic Forum and in June 2007, Alastair led the company’s demerger from Morse and listing on the LSE’s AIM market.

During his time as CEO, Monitise grew to a market cap of US$2billion employing 1,500 staff on four continents. In 2011, Alastair was named Entrepreneur of the Year at the 2011 Growing Business Awards and he took up his appointment as Non‐Executive Chairman of FinTech industry body, Innovate Finance, upon its launch in 2014. 2014 saw Alastair being named Business Ambassador to the UK Prime Minister for the financial services industry to the UK Government. Today he acts as the sole Business Ambassador of FinTech.

Alastair’s newest venture within the entrepreneurial FinTech space has been as Founding Partner, Origination of Motive Partners a next generation financial technology investment firm focused exclusively on the technology enabled companies that power the financial services industry. Motive Partners has been formed to address the unique opportunity in financial technology through an integrated platform with the capability to invest, operate and innovate across the financial technology ecosystem.

Combining three central themes – Digital Guernsey, Great People and Great Innovations – FinVention 2017 will be an interactive one‐day forum showcasing ‘the best of breed’ in innovative technological products and services in the FinTech, digital and start‐up sectors.

The FinVention Stage will feature a number of fast paced presentations from individuals and companies who have products and services at different stages of development; some may be at the initial stages of securing investment, others will be more mature and will have adapted to an increasingly super‐fast consumer demand for innovation and invention. FinVention 2017 is the opportunity to connect participants to potential collaborators; to demonstrate inventive ideas to secure interest and constructive feedback and to attract first or secondary investment into technologically driven products and services.
“Communication is at the heart of the digital and borderless technological age which now dominates and shapes the 21st century” said Deputy Andrea Dudley‐Owen, member of both Committees for Economic Development and for Education.

“Guernsey has already demonstrated its leadership role in supporting and encouraging the FinTech, digital and start‐up sectors and FinVention is an ideal platform for the newest technological produces and services to communicate and stimulate the conversation with purchasers, users, partners and investors.”
